A message from our team advisor:
After working in business and industry for twelve years, in 1992, I returned to teaching science--specifically physics--with the express purpose of increasing the number of students--especially women and other members of underrepresented groups--who pursue careers in science and engineering. Three years later I became involved with FIRST robotics, advising a team from Plainfield High School (team 136). I was hooked. I have, subsequently, started teams in two other schools--team 752, in Science High School in Newark, and team 1257, in Union County Votech's Magnet High Schools. I also was co-advisor to team 1412 in Hackensack High School.I have found the experience to be life altering for all participants--even those who are not interested in science and/or engineering. I feel that bringing the experience of FIRST robotics to so many students is the most important thing I have done in my career as a science teacher.
